OSC 02/2026: IT Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The IT Assistant position is responsible for providing technical assistance, maintaining ICT infrastructure, supporting business applications and digital systems, and assisting in the implementation of technology solutions that promote efficient, secure, and reliable service delivery across the Commission.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first-level technical support for hardware, software, network, connectivity, and ICT-related issues across the Commission.
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices, audio-visual equipment, and other ICT assets utilised by the Commission.
• Assist in diagnosing and resolving ICT system, software, application, and network issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Support user account administration, including account creation, password resets, access permissions, email administration, user onboarding, offboarding, and system access management.
• Assist in administering and supporting Microsoft 365, cloud-based services, shared drives, collaboration platforms, and other digital workplace solutions utilised by the Commission.
• Monitor ICT systems, network connectivity, internet services, and ICT infrastructure to support business continuity and operational efficiency.
• Assist in maintaining the security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of OSC's information systems, databases, networks, digital platforms, and electronic records.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of cybersecurity measures, including antivirus protection, patch management, system updates, vulnerability identification, user awareness initiatives, and security best practices.
• Assist in identifying, recording, escalating, and responding to ICT security incidents, system vulnerabilities, cyber threats, data breaches, and operational risks.
• Support the implementation of data backup processes and assist in maintaining disaster recovery, system restoration, and business continuity arrangements.
• Provide technical support and administration for OSC's complaint management systems, customer relationship management systems, databases, digital records systems, and other business applications utilised by the Commission.
• Assist in maintaining, updating, and supporting OSC's website, online complaint platforms, digital communication tools, and other public-facing digital services.
• Maintain accurate records of ICT assets, software licences, warranties, inventories, equipment allocation, and related ICT documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in ICT support or a similar technical role.
• Good understanding of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and basic networking concepts.
• Experience in troubleshooting ICT issues in a professional environment is an advantage.
•  Knowledge of ICT security principles and data protection practices is desirable

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

• Timely resolution of ICT support requests and technical issues.
• Reduced system downtime and improved reliability of ICT services.
• Accurate maintenance of ICT asset register and inventory records.
• Effective support for ICT equipment setup during meetings, trainings, and events.
• Successful implementation of user support and on boarding processes.
• Compliance with ICT security policies and procedures.
• Positive feedback from staff regarding ICT support services.

ELIGIBILITY

The Online Safety Commission (OSC) welcomes applications from qualified candidates. All applicants must:

• Be of good character and demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of the OSC as outlined in the Online Safety Act 2018.

OSC 09/2025: Intern (All Rounder)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Intern (All‑Rounder) position is designed to provide students or recent graduates with practical, hands‑on experience in a professional work environment. The Intern will support various units of the Online Safety Commission and gain exposure to administrative, technical, operational, and outreach functions of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• The successful applicant will be required to assist across multiple areas, including but not limited to:

Administrative Support

• Assist with general office administration and filing (physical and electronic).
• Support data entry, record keeping, and document preparation.
• Assist in scheduling meetings and organizing office activities.

Operational, Technical Support & Outreach

• Provide basic support to operational teams as assigned.
• Assist with monitoring tasks, research, and report preparation.
• Support compliance and internal processes under supervision.
• Support awareness programs, workshops, and events where required.

Communications & Marketing

• Assist with drafting basic correspondence and internal communications.
• Create visually engaging posters and graphic content, including reels for social media platforms.

ICT & Office Systems Support

• Provide basic assistance with computer systems and office equipment.
• Support data organization and information management tasks.

General Duties

• Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to OSC policies and procedures at all times.

During the attachment period, the intern will:

• Gain exposure to public sector operations and online safety functions.
• Develop workplace professionalism and communication skills.
• Build practical experience in administration, operations, and digital environments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed studies in areas such as IT, Law, Cybersecurity, Communications, Business Administration, or related fields.
• Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Email).
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt.

Desirable:

• Interest in online safety, cybersecurity, or digital governance.
• Basic understanding of website design, content development, and digital platforms.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Reporting Line

The Intern (All‑Rounder) will report to a designated Supervisor or Office Manager within the Online Safety Commission.

Code of Conduct

The Intern is required to comply with all OSC policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements throughout the attachment period.

Recently it has been brought to the attention of the Online Safety Commission (‘OSC’) that there are some social media users who are sharing and circulating videos or photos that feature other people without their consent. It has further been noted that such videos or photos when they are uploaded or circulated on the social media at times invite to enormous amount of negative, degrading or sarcasm intended comments towards the person(s) who are featured in the videos or photos. Such comments can have impact on a person either emotionally or psychologically to whom the comments have been intended towards.

The posting of such materials that feature other people without their consent and with the intention of causing harm is classified as Online Bullying by the OSC. We would also like to advise the members of the public that they need to be mindful when placing comments on the social media platforms as their comments may be classified as Online Bullying depending on the nature of their comment(s).

Our Advise to the Social Media Users

The OSC would like to give the following advise to the social media users:

• Refrain from uploading the videos or photos of other people without obtaining their consent.
• After getting the consent from the person(s) featured in the videos or photos, please consider if the content of the video or photo is appropriate for sharing or not. Please consider whether the content could be subjected to negative, degrading or sarcasm intended comments.
• If you see videos or photos on the social media accounts, before placing any comments or remarks on the post or even messaging the person who is featured in the video or photo, do consider the impact that your comment or message may have on the person(s) featured in the video or photo. 

Our Advise to the Victims of Online Bullying

If you think you or your child has been subjected to Online Bullying, please do lodge your complaint with the OSC through the following means:

1. Visit the OSC Office at Level 9, Suvavou House, Victoria Parade, Suva.
2. Make a phone call to OSC on (679) 998 0242/ 330 0547.
3. Send an email on help@osc.com.fj
4. Visit OSC website on www.osc.com.fj and report your complaint via the “Report Now” link on the website.

Once we receive the complaint we will do our analysis and if needed, we may require the post to be removed. Needful actions may also be taken against people who are perpetrators of Online Bullying.

Recently it has been brought to the attention of the Online Safety Commission (‘OSC’) that there are some social media accounts which are uploading intimate videos and photos that feature other people.

The OSC strongly condemns such acts and urges the members of the public who are being victimised by such act to lodge their complaints with the OSC at the earliest.

The posting of such intimate materials that contains other people are classified as Image Based Abuse by the OSC.

The OSC will only be able to take any action in getting the Image Based Abuse content removed from the social media platforms after a formal complaint has been lodged by the victims who are featured in the content.

Lodging of the Complaint

The following persons can lodge the complaint with OSC:

• any person who has been featured in the intimate image or video;
• parent or guardian of the person in the intimate image or video and they are a child under 18; or
• parent or guardian of the person in the intimate image or video and they need help due to a cognitive, mental or physical issue.

What Happens Once a Complaint has been Lodged

• the OSC will first analyse the complaint and discuss with the victim; and
• the OSC will then contact the concerned social media platform and request for removal of the content.

How Can You Help to Combat the Issue

If you are a victim of image-based abuse you can help in combatting the issue by lodging a complaint to OSC through the following means:

Background

The Global Online Safety Regulators Network (GOSRN) has today published a regulatory index, which provides a comparison for how international online safety regulators are approaching their respective regulatory duties.

GOSRN is a forum aimed at supporting collaboration between online safety regulators across the world. By bringing regulators together, the Network aims to bring about coherence between international regulators’ approaches to online safety, through the sharing of information, expertise and experience.

The Network currently comprises nine regulators spanning five continents: the eSafety Commissioner (Australia); Online Safety Commission (Fiji); Arcom (France); Coimisiún na Meán (Ireland); Korea Communications Standards Commission (Republic of Korea); Council for Media Services (Slovakia); Film and Publication Board (South Africa); and Autoriteit Terroristische Content en Kinderpornografisch Materiaal (Netherlands) and Ofcom (UK).

Online Safety Regulatory Index

In October 2024, the Network published the Online Safety Regulatory Index, collating members' approaches to online safety regulation.

The Index is designed to support comparison of online safety regulatory frameworks. collaboration between regulators, and regulatory coherence. By understanding the areas of consistency and divergence in regulations, regulators can aim to ensure that the online safety of internet users in our respective countries does not stop ‘at the border’ and that companies can benefit from economies of scale.

Use the Index to better understand the online safety regulatory environment of member countries.
